A PREPARATORY MEETING FOR THE 62ND ROUND OF THE GENEVA INTERNATIONAL DISCUSSIONS
On 7 October 2024, a preparatory meeting for the 62nd round of the Geneva International Discussions was held in Tbilisi with the co-chairs of the negotiations from the European Union, the United Nations, and the OSCE. The Georgian side was led by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Georgian Delegation to the Geneva International Discussions, Lasha Darsalia.
During the meeting, the importance of the effective functioning of the Geneva International Discussions was emphasized. In this context, attention was drawn to the main issues on the agenda, including the need for progress on the fulfillment of international obligations undertaken by Russia under the EU-mediated 12 August 2008 ceasefire agreement and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees.
Additionally, the importance of the unconditional restoration of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali and the regular convening of the mechanism in Gali and Ergneti in accordance with its fundamental principles was highlighted.
The 62nd round of the Geneva International Discussions is scheduled to take place on 5-6 November 2024.
